The communications industry continues to be in its' infancy with respect to standardization, certification and formal education. There are very few degreed, formal education programs available for those entering and working in the communications industry. There is a heavy reliance on skills-based training offered and conducted by industry associations and that available from manufacturers in this industry.

Emergent's President, Jody Thomas, has served on the adjunct faculty of InfoComm, a leading industry association, since 1993.
